Poetry slammed

So I went to a party last night for my group but prior to the party the venue had a poetry slam.  All the women who performed had coherent poems with messages and feeling.  However, most of the men had violent words with bad intentions.  There was one young guy there that was truly inspired and performed admirably.  He was the only one that did.  I don't understand how the women spoke of love, lust, peace and admirable causes while the men spoke of violence and bad intentions.  Maybe I missed something at the last man meeting.
